About Cattle Track Arts Compound:
Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, Cattle Track is a community that most locals don’t even know of and is where artists live and work among their art. This one-of-a-kind compound offers an artistic escape to visitors who walk through the preserved desert landscape amidst the authentic adobe houses lining the Arizona Canal. The property is full of rich history that dates all the way back to the 1930s. During its illustrious past, famous artists such as Fritz Scholder, who is known for his Native American paintings, lived and worked here in unison with their artwork. Other artists that resided in the community include Philip Curtis, whose work can now be seen at the Phoenix Art Museum, and abstract expressionist Louise Nevelson, who has erected sculptures that stand three stories tall. Today, visitors can see artists, blacksmiths and performers working just like their predecessors did decades before them. For aspiring artists, not only can you observe other artists perfect their craft, but you can take part as well.
