Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic editor to join our team and participate in all stages of the publication process.

As an assistant/associate editor you will support the editor-in-chief to administer, plan and produce each issue of Green Living magazine.

Ultimately, you should be able to deliver exceptional and informative content to meet audience preferences,

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with writers to assign articles and receive content; work with copy editor to ensure articles are free of errors
  • Collaborate with the editor-in-chief to research and plan new articles and come up with article ideas
  • Suggest possible sources and improvements for articles
  • Work with team members (e.g. writers, PR professionals and photographers), ensuring deadlines are met
  • Choose supporting material for articles, like images and illustrations
  • Write one article per issue plus the Editor’s Note
  • Work closely with the publisher, copy editor, creative director and other staff to ensure smooth process of putting together each issue of the magazine
  • Use social media and SEO to draw attention to articles
  • Conceptualize and execute long-term vision for the Green Living brand by directing the tone, look and feel of the magazine
  • Generate ideas for new ways of doing things, such as using new technology, implementing ways to increase readership, and how to utilize new media
  • Track traffic trends and analytics, and conceive and implement traffic-boosting content ideas to create an upward trend in the number of visitors to the website
  • Maintain and update monthly distribution, mailing and subscription lists
  • Facilitate partnerships with the magazine and local organizations
  • Oversee and manage editorial and social media interns
  • Attend networking events and work booths on behalf of the magazine and make conscious connections
  • Help plan and organize Green Living’s monthly launch party events
  • Follow current events and developments and suggest original ideas
  • Provide administrative support to the editor-in-chief

Requirements & Skills:

  • Experience working in publishing, either for a magazine, newspaper or online outlet
  • Computer skills (knowledge of Excel, Word, Google Drive, Dropbox, CRM databases, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure while meeting goals and deadlines
  • Detail-oriented
  • HTML experience

Duties and responsibilities include providing administrative and clerical support to ensure efficient operation of the office, as well as generating sales revenue.

Responsibilities:

  • Cold, warm and hot calling on sales leads
  • Closing sales and achieving quotas
  • Researching accounts and identifying key players through media outlets
  • Maintaining and expanding our database of prospects within the assigned territory
  • Understanding customer needs and requirements, responding within timely manner, providing excellent follow-through
  • Answer, screen and direct office phone calls
  • Maintain contact, distribution and subscription lists
  • Prepare and maintain monthly ad schedule
  • Liaison between distribution and fulfilment companies, and Publisher

Can you capture life through the lens? Can you tell stories through images? Green Living magazine is seeking talented, creative student photographers who will have a direct impact on the visual appeal of this publication. This unpaid internship offers an opportunity to build a portfolio and expand  on photography and image-editing skills while exploring the world of sustainability and living green. Interns will be supervised by the Associate Editor and Creative Director and will work both independently and with writers on assignments.

Qualified applicants are students of photography who can provide samples of their work. They must have their own equipment, including a quality camera and access to Photoshop. Students must demonstrate a level of professionalism, organization and adherence to deadline necessary for success in the publishing industry.

Other desired qualifications: self-motivation, ability to work with writers and design team, basic understanding of sustainability and green lifestyle, ability to converse with subjects and accurately capture necessary information at photo shoots, ability to take direction and desire to improve.

> Publisher’s Assistant Intern

Supports the Publisher of Green Living magazine by setting appointments (scheduling), managing the Publisher’s calendar, conducting research, completing organization tasks, attending meetings and recording notes, reporting sales information, sales call prep/reporting, and other tasks as needed.

The Job:

  • Maintains CRM database by inputting new, potential clients and setting appointments.
  • Updates Publisher and sales team by consolidating, analyzing, and forwarding daily action summaries in CRM database
  • Manages Publisher’s calendar to include meetings and events and ensure no scheduling overlaps or difficulties.
  • Provides ad specification and pricing information by clarifying customer request; selecting appropriate information; forwarding information; answering questions.
  • Forwards media kits, editorial content, as relevant, and ad samples, as provided.
